Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from everyone here at One Little Indian Records. It’s been a very exciting year for us at the label and we’d like to share just a few of the highlights:
We kicked the beginning of the year off on a high with FOXTROTT’s ‘A Taller Us’, and so we thought what better way to round the year off as well by sharing the ‘A Taller Us’ Deluxe Edition with all the extra content linked to the album, including 3 exceptional remixes.
This was then followed up by fan favourite, Dan Sartain and his 6th album ‘Century Plaza’. Dan took an electronic turn with this record, channelling his inner Alan Vega.
Olga Bell also released her club centric album of dance floor tunes ‘Tempo’. Pitchfork have championed this record throughout the year, and in particular showing lots of love for ‘Randomness’, adding it their Top 20 Best Pop & R&B Albums of 2016.
We were then lucky enough to share Wild Palms second record ‘Live Together, Eat Each Other’. The album and all accompanying singles come with Guitarist and esteemed artist Darrell Hawkins stunning artwork. The band also topped the year off with an incredible overseas tour around India.
The Icelandic trio Samaris returned after releasing second album Silkidrangar with their highly acclaimed third record ‘Black Lights’. The band toured extensively throughout UK & EU including a stop off at Latitude Festival.
We were thrilled to welcome Tusks to the OLI family, and kicked things off in style with her beautiful ‘False’ EP. The Throwing Snow remix of Emily’s ‘Ivy’ was picked up and championed across BBC 6Music with Lauren Laverne in particularly showing a lot of love. Tusks just closed off 2016 with a sold out performance at London’s Waiting Room.
2016 saw us release the special Live version of Björk’s eighth studio album ‘Vulnicura’. To celebrate Björk played two extraordinary stripped back shows with a full orchestra, firstly at Royal Albert Hall, and then a follow up at Hammersmith Apollo.
Along with Björk’s Live performances, she has also been touring the world with her celebrated ‘Björk Digital’ exhibition – beginning in Japan, she stopped off at London’s Somerset House throughout October, and finishes the year in Montreal and Houston. Björk Digital invites visitors to an exhibition of digital and video works that are the result of Björk’s new collaborations with some of the finest visual artists and programmers in the world.
We then moved onto Fufanu’s debut album ‘Few More Days To Go’ Deluxe, and are very much excited moving forwards towards their new album ‘Sports’, coming in 2017.
Michele Stodart of The Magic Numbers released her second solo album ‘Pieces’, and took herself off on an extensive South American tour.
Wolverhampton Rock heavyweights God Damn present their second album ‘Everything Ever’ featuring ‘Ghost’, ‘Dead To Me’ and ‘Sing This’. The band toured comprehensively including support tours with American stoner rock band Red Fang and also Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes.
We also saw The Computers release a new album of Garage-soul, punk ‘n’ roll anthems, ‘Birth/Death’. The beautiful artwork came courtesy of acclaimed artist Vaughn Oliver.
2016 saw One Little Indian and Manners McDade Publishing join forces to kick start Cognitive Shift Recordings, a new contemporary classical label creating a home for music that has influences and instrumentation within the genre and beyond. The debut release came from Roger Goula in the form of the exploratory ‘Overview Effect’, which investigates the phenomenon experienced by astronauts when viewing Earth from a distance.
Mercury nominated and critically acclaimed folk artist Kathryn Williams doesn’t stick to a tried and tested formula when she writes a new album. This year, Williams teamed up with revered jazz musician and vibraphone player Anthony Kerr to create a complete re-imagining of classic jazz standards in the form of their new album ‘Resonator’.
We rounded the year off with new signing s a r a s a r a. Her debut album was co-produced by herself and acclaimed musician Matthew Herbert, who also mixed the record. ‘a m o r f a t i’ is an uncompromising and boundary pushing debut album, and we are looking forward to seeing more from her in 2017.
We’ve also had some extremely exciting signings this year, including the extraordinarily talented Sarah Walk. Currently we’ve released several singles that proving to be highly popular and we can’t wait to lead into an album in 2017.
It seems fitting to finish things off by celebrating 30 years of One Little Indian Records! Thanks for everyone’s support!!
You can listen to all of these artists and more on our OLI Spotify Playlists!
