KUKL

Label: One Little Indian

Fronted by Bjork, Icelandic anarcho-punk band KUKL formed in 1983 as an avant-garde group to perform on the final episode of a radio show called Áfangar. The band’s name translated from the Medieval Icelandic word meaning ‘witchcraft.’ Their first live performance was in Reykjavik in September 1983, opening for Crass. KUKL’s ideology was centred around causing a change in society through music. They broke up in 1986, becoming The Sugarcubes.
