Freedy Johnston (real name Fred Fatzer) is a New York City based singer-songwriter, originally from Kinsley, Kansas. His songs are often about troubled loners, heartbreak, alienation and disappointment, and he has released 12 albums, including live LPs. He moved to New York in 1985 with some songs recorded on a four-track recorder. He released his first album ‘The Trouble Tree’ on Bar None Records in 1990 and signed to Elektra in 1994. Johnston released ‘This Perfect World’ in the same year, leading to him being named the Rolling Stone Songwriter of the Year. His latest album ‘Rain On The City’ was released in January 2010.
