FiniTribe

Label: One Little Indian

Edinburgh’s FiniTribe began their thirty year existence as Gallery Macabre, twisting up the post punk of Wire, 23 Skidoo and Throbbing Gristle with their own highly original take on contemporary instruments, samplers and visual image interpretation. They soon morphed into FiniTribe and quickly established themselves as outsiders from the then cooler than thou “Sound of Young Scotland” sounds emanating loudly in the music press of the mid 80’s. Staging adventurous events in non-rock venues, they utilised percussion, bass and synthesised sounds; the resultant outcome was far closer to Krautrock than Scotrock. Let The Tribe Grow EP was released in ‘86, featuring the now legendary House/Techno Ibiza Club anthem, De Testimony, but it would be another three years before this track would grace the soundsystems of Café Del Mar, Pacha and numerous other clubs on the hedonistic, paradise island of Ibiza in 1989, courtesy of Danny Rampling. He had already test-driven the track to great effect at his London Club Shoom! to great effect. FiniTribe were now very much ensconced in acid, techno and, by association, The Second Summer of Love.
