Born in Iceland to an Italian father and Icelandic mother, Emilíana Torrini started singing early, joining a choir at the age of 7 and later enrolling in opera school, but came to the attention of One Little Indian label boss Derek Birkett singing in a Reykavik restaurant. The upshot of that encounter was debut album ‘Love In The Time Of Science’, Torrini subsequently going on to release three solo albums on Rough Trade as well as 2010’s ‘Rarities’ compilation on OLI, featuring alternate takes, remixes and hard to find tracks. Emiliana also co-wrote and co-produced Kylie Minogue’s Grammy nominated single, ‘Slow’ and sung ‘Gollum’s Song’ on the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. Latest album ‘Me and Armini’ spawned the hit single ‘Jungle Drum’ which reached number one in several countries, staying at the top spot in Germany for 9 weeks.
