HK119: NEW SINGLE ‘ICEBERG’ OUT NOW!

HK119’s new single ‘Iceberg’ is released today. One of the highlights from recently released third album ‘Imaginature’, ‘Iceberg’ is as clear and crisp as its namesake and imagines a lover as a sparkling, cool surface with great hidden depths.

The release comes with two great remixes. The first is the gorgeous Acoustic Ukulele Mix (Heidi taught herself to play the instrument last year) and the second is a typically great, experimental remix from audiovisual outfit Plaid.

Click here to buy this single from iTunes.

The themes of ‘Imaginature’ have resulted in a new kind of HK119 live show, with a more organic, acoustic feel. Heidi performs with a band (including Roisin Murphy and Scroobius Pip collaborator Alastair McNeill Brown) who accompany her on keyboards, laptop, ukulele and accordion.

HK119 performs at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen on 10th July and at Secret Garden Party on 27th July.

Click here to see videos from HK119’s ‘Chorus Series’ – a collection of shorts inspired by songs from ‘Imaginature’.

In February this year, Ásgeir Trausti travelled from his home in Iceland to Toe Rag Studios in London to record some acoustic versions of songs from his forthcoming debut English language album. Now you can download ‘The Toe Rag Sessions’ for free from Bandcamp. Click here to listen or download.

He is currently touring the UK with John Grant. Click here for a full list of dates.

At only 20 years of age Ásgeir has made a huge impression on the Icelandic music scene - his debut album ‘Dyrd i Daudathogn’ became Iceland’s biggest selling debut album by a domestic artist on it’s release last September, going double platinum and winning him no less than 4 Icelandic Music Awards and a nomination for the Nordic Music Prize earlier this year.

American artist John Grant, currently resident in Iceland, became a huge fan and has collaborated with Ásgeir on an English language version of the album - More news on this soon.

Samaris: debut album and first UK show announced

Etherial Icelanders Samaris’ first UK release comes in the shape of an eponymously-titled album on 29th July. The album, available to pre-order now, compiles their two Icelandic-released EPs, Hljóma Þú (2011) and Stofnar falla (recorded at Sigur Rós’ Sundlaugin studio with Gunnar Tynes of Múm, 2012) and includes 4 additional remixes.

A brand new album follows in the autumn.

Still in their teens, Samaris combine downtempo electronica and bold, percussive beats with haunting chant-like vocals - the lyrics culled from nineteenth century Icelandic poems. The result is simultaneously ancient and modern – an ethereal sound filled with dark spaces and alien atmosphere.

Formed in January 2011, within months they had won both the Icelandic Músíktilraunir (past winners include the likes of Of Monsters and Men) and Kraumur Award.

Pre-order Samaris from the OLI store here.

Samaris play their first UK show on 13th of June at Servant Jazz Quarters, London.

Quiet release-wise since the last Pernice Brothers album in 2010, Joe Pernice announces not one, but two (and quite possibly three) new recording projects. First up is a collaboration with Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake. The New Mendicants (also featuring Mike Belisky of The Sadies on drums) release a debut EP, ‘Australia 2013’ via One Little Indian on 8th July, with a full album currently being readied for an early 2014 release.

Watch Joe and Norman plays a version of ‘Finding You’ by The Go-Betweens.

The band play UK dates as a duo (Norman & Joe) in July as follows:

7th Dublin, Whelans
8th Cambridge, Cambridge Portland Arms
9th Bristol, Colston Hall 2
10th London, The Lexington
11th Nottington, The Glee
12th Birmingham, The Glee
13th Manchester, Deaf Institute
14th Hebden Bridge, Trades Club
15th Glasgow, Mono

The other big news is that - having renewed their acquaintance in 2011 - a brand new Scud Mountain Boys album, ‘Do You Love The Sun’ will be released via the label in August, more details soon.

It will be preceded by a re-issue of ‘The Early Year’ (also 8th July) a double cd compiling the band’s first and second albums – ‘Dance The Night Away’ and ‘Pine Box’ (originally released by Sub Pop in 1997).

A new Pernice Brothers album is also rumoured to be in the works!
